NEW TOYS BASED ON 1980 FLASH GORDON MOVIE!!!

Yes, BifBangPow Toys (distributed by Entertainment Earth) will be releasing various toys based on the 1980 cult classic. Fan-favorite comic book artist Alex Ross is designing the packaging.

The first two slated are bobbleheads for Flash and Ming. You can see a pic of Flash's bobblehead at BBP's blog: http://bifbangpow.blogspot.com/index.html

It sounds like there are more toys in this line on the way and we'll hear more details at the 2007 Toy Fair in NY in February, so keep your ears open.

And this brings up a related topic: why was there hardly any merchandise based on the 1980 film? There were some Halloween costumes, some tie-in comics and books, some puffy stickers, and a few rare international items (UK cap gun and a French? hanging mobile), but no action figures. Mego, who produced beautiful 10-inch figures in 1978, supposedly planned a line, but these didn't get past the planning stage. I've heard two theories: 1) the licenses were already tied up by Mattell for the animated Filmation line, and 2) the domestic box office was so disappointing that any other plans were shelved. Shame, eh?

NEW FLASH GORDON TV SERIES ON SCI-FI CHANNEL!!!

Yep, the current news is that the Sci-Fi Channel has ordered 22 episodes of a new, original, live-action series based on our favorite spacefaring hero. The pilot is currently scheduled for July. If it's anywhere near as good as the new Battlestar Galactica, I'm gonna be a happy camper :)

Keep checking the Sci-Fi Channel site at www.scifi.com for the latest info. And, of course, I will keep you informed of any collectibles based on this series.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Mongo Museum F/A/Q:

Q: What's the purpose of the museum?
A: The museum is a non-profit fan page dedicated to the celebration and cataloging of Flash Gordon memorabilia. Yep, I know it's a little on the crude side, but I'm trying to spiff it up. Your feedback, info/pic contributions, and encouragement can only help! :)

Q: Are any of the items for sale?
A: Not at this time, but I'll eventually be putting together a "trading post" in the museum for some of my duplicates - stay tuned.

Q: Are you interested in buying any Flash Gordon items?
A: If the price is right. :) I'll be posting a want list on my trading post.

Q: How much is this Flash Gordon item worth?
A: Most of the time, I just can't help you there. Seriously - it's worth what people will pay for it, and this will always fluctuate. You can try to track items on eBay, but there are so many variables.

Q: Have you ever published a book on Flash Gordon?
A: Not yet. But I was interviewed for Dark Horse Books' "Blast Off" space toys book, and I have contributed to other web sites. But who knows? ....I'm always scheming...

Q: Can you help me identify a Flash Gordon item?
A: I'd be happy to try. Be sure to search the museum picture galleries first.

Q: Why has it been so long between new museum updates?
A: Sorry about that - I've been busy.... and lazy :) But there's a LOT of FG happenings coming up in '07, so keep checking back.

Q: I believe I sent you a picture for the museum, but I don't see my name credited - what happened?
A: Interesting story - my old image hosting service crashed (actually, it went out of business.) If you sent me a pic (or somebody else sent me one of your pics and never said it was you), please let me know and I'd be happy to restore your credit.
